"Assimilation, Seperatism, alienation, and multicultiralism in Mustapha Matura's Welcome Home Jacko"

Blacks were determined to destroy the falsness and simplicity of sterotypes created by White society and to show the complexity of their real selves.

In 1960's every one, black, gay, femimist, all they want to have a voice in the society. Then we can see the begining of the black movement.

    A.  Black Theatre Should Be:

            1. About Black People: The play must have plots, which reveal African-American   life.
            2. By Black People:      The plays must be written by a Black Playwright.
            3. For Black People:     The play must be written for Black People
            4. Near Black People:   The theatre must be located near a Black Neighborhood.

    B. Black Theatre Should Be:

            1. Funcional:  Aim to teach lesson
            2. Collective:  Should be a group oriented
            3. Committed: Concerns the Black Rights

The Black Art Movement believes that your ethnic and aesthetic are one.

              Plot Analyses;

In the play we have black characters who wasting their times in a Youth club. British government provide them into a youth club, they can drink coke, play footbal, and go to the disco.
They send them to a youth club but not because they are valuable people, or government care them; but because white people don't want them in the society.
This youth club is like a prison, they want to keep blacks there in order to keep society clean, because they think that these black people causes violence and if we put them and keep them busy, all the time our society can be clean.
So, for the Youth Club we can say it's like a prison, the only function is to keep them out of the society.
They always say this is your god, this is British way of life, we don't like British culture etc..
Jacko always says to the other Blacks, with hitten Gail or tormenting Sandy, you think that you are fightining for racism. You think that you are doing something good for your socity or for your self. But you are doing nothing, you are just wasting your time and your life or you are occupying your time with drinking Coke or playing football.
Even if they think that they humuliate Sandy, in reality Sandy controls them with  keeping them in youth Club

 What About The Characters:

   Jacko :

He spend 5 years in prison and expected to come back to the youth club. (He raped a woman)
His frriend refer to call him hero, warrior, because he didn't give the name of the his friends to the police when they caught by police after they rape a woman.
He is more realistic than the other characters. He is awair of the situation.
Jacko as the protagonist of the play tries to make more consciousness.  He wants them to understand , they are not doing anything for black people except wasting time. Jacko always criticizes them.

    Gail :

She goes there (youth club) to work as  an assistent but Marcus doesn't like her. Because even if she is also African, she is also black; but Marcus finds her assimilated. So he says that you are not a true African. You are just like British People, even you don't know your culture, you can not be a real African.

    Sandy :

Sandy is like the other white people in the society, she also has binary oppositions in her mind.
British government want to keep them away from the society and Sandy helping British government to keep them away. She is the part of the this Doctrin.
She thinks that if we let them into the society, they will create violence, broke the peace of society, they will act savagely. Because they are black, so Sandy also has sort of things in her mind, otherwise she doesn't work there.
